The Society of Studio Art Students

This year, at the Louisiana Tech School of Design’s all-school meeting, my best friend Taryn Davidson and I realized that every SOD major had a club…except studio art. Immediately, we knew that needed to happen.

So, after some reaching out, we got into contact with Abby Monarch and Abby Dunne, who also realized the same things we did. After a few weeks of planning, getting permission, and deciding on executive officers through games of rock paper scissors, an interest meeting date was in place.

As the secretary, I get to enjoy making graphics, building bridges between the exec team and the club members, and writing messages in the club GroupMe with way too many emojis. I also do a lot of the fun stuff surrounding the new gallery wall SSAS has set up, but more on that later!

It is shocking how much one small team can accomplish in one school year. We have set up a gallery space in the art building, hosted workshops, held meetings, sold work at tables, participated in events, and so much more. I really and truly couldn’t be any prouder nor more excited for the future of LaTech Studio Art than I already am. The community is one of the strongest I have ever felt, and the faculty does nothing but facilitate that community with full investment. I could not be more grateful to the SOD faculty for making this entire thing possible.
