Deck The Halls

This year, I participated in my first Louisiana Tech School of Design Deck the Halls! You are given a skate deck and free reign. I decided to go sculptural because I found so much joy in the thought of altering a skate deck into a 3D wall hanging.

I went back and forth between ideas and the drawing board, and eventually, I found an article written by Greg Arts. His cheese pull and honey skate decks were such great sources of inspiration to me!

I took a Dremel tool and committed to it. I even reached out to Greg himself and had some great dialogue about it!

I went through more back and forth with myself about how to take things to the next level and ended up plaster-casting my hands to pull the deck. Thank you Mom and Dad for helping me out there.

The show was a good one, and I was really honored to win the people’s choice award. I think the enjoyment, and decision-making really shined through for me. That is still one of my favorite pieces to have made two years into my college career.
